Obedience Training

obedience training

Basic Obedience training for dogs involves teaching them basic commands such as “sit”, “stay”, “down”, “leave”, and “come”.  This training establishes the foundations for a well behaved dog, allowing them to understand what is expected of them in different situations and it also helps to build a strong bond between you and your dog.

  • Basic Commands: The core of basic obedience training is teaching dogs to reliably respond to verbal commands and or hand signals. This includes commands like “sit,” “stay,” “come,” “down,” “heel,” and “leave it”.
  • Positive Reinforcement: Positive reinforcement, where you reward desired behaviours, is a key component of effective obedience training. This can include treats, praise, toys, or affection. Voice modulation is also key to success for a dog to understand the desired behaviour.
  • Consistency and Repetition: Dogs learn best through consistent training and repeated practice. Creating a regular training schedule and using the same cues for each command helps them understand what you’re asking.
  • Socialisation: Basic obedience training often includes socialisation, which is the process of exposing your dog to different environments, people, and animals in a controlled and positive way.
  • Leash Training: Leash training, teaching your dog to walk nicely on a leash without pulling, is an important part of basic obedience.
  • Building Trust: Obedience training helps build a stronger bond between you and your dog, as you establish clear communication and expectations.
  • Safety: Basic obedience commands like “come” and “leave it” are essential for your dog’s safety, especially in potentially dangerous situations.
  • Mental Stimulation: Obedience training provides mental stimulation for dogs, which is particularly important for high-energy breeds.
